Windows xp repair install keeps restarting

Welcome to our community! After some fiddling around I decided that the easiest thing would be to run a repair installation - that something I have done many, many times. However, after the system rebooted the first time to continue in graphic mode, it displays the full-screen XP logo with the running bar for a short while and then reboots - over and over again.

Hardware can be excluded, because I have imaged the system to a completely new PC, too, and that made no difference. However, if I do a full reinstallation along with formatting the partition, the setup continues nicely in graphic mode - only when I do a repair installation it dies as soon as it gets into the graphic part of the setup.

How can some old and more or less messed up configuration cause the setup that is supposed to overwrite it to crash? I could, of course, just reinstall cleanly, but I want to save myself the effort of reinstalling all the applications Do you have any suggestions out of this misery? Active 6 years, 8 months ago. Any idea guys? This is getting on my nerves. Thanks in advance. Improve this question. Milind Thakkar Milind Thakkar 3 3 bronze badges. First, I booted through CD, selected repair install and let it reboot, it finishes installation from hard-disk with CD installed.

CD is still in the drive, it comes back to installation second step. The problem i think is connected to some hardware problem, you can try a new installation removing all the peripheral devices you have installed and with one slot of ram if you have more than 1 , also check the CD isn't scratched or the hdd isn't faulty.

I am worried for data to try fresh installation. I have 3 partitions. If I do fresh installation, will it format full drive or it will overwrite only C drive? One is "Repair your computer", and the other one is "What to know before installing Windows". Click on the first one: "Repair your computer". Windows will then try to find the installation directory for Vista or Windows 7, depending on what you have.

Next up is a screen with a box called Recovery Options. Click the first option, Startup Repair. You'll see a Startup Repair box with the message "Startup Repair is checking your system for problems…". When it's done, it will prompt you to reboot. Any image, link, or discussion of nudity. Start Windows Normally" I choose "Start Windows Normally" , and then it shows as if it starts windows with the Windows XP logo - but after a few seconds then, restart again!

I tried "Safe mode with Networking" but it didn't work also. How can I fix this problem? Thank you! This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread.
